Another Gun Song

by Aaron Smith

/

about

In 2019, I wrote "The Gun Song," to protest the epidemic of mass shootings in the United States. Three years later, the violence continues and I'm even angrier, so I'm speaking out again. It has to stop! We need gun control, we need to take assault weapons out of the hands of those who would use them to murder innocent people!

lyrics

I tried to tell you to stop
I tried to tell you to look around
I tried to tell you to stop
Look at the bodies there on the ground

Hellfire from the rooftop
Rains down on our parade
He takes a dozen more shots
Look at the mayhem he has made

Get it right down at the local store
Everything you need to start a war
An automated means of murder
You don’t even have to touch her to hurt her

Death is not nearly as clean
As it seems on movie night
Look into the reaper’s eyes
If you can even stand the sight

A little girl wears blood
It came from inside her best friend
A little boy is alone
His Mom and Dad were just shot dead

Get it right down at the local store
Everything you need to start a war
Such a convenient means of murder
You don’t even have to touch her to hurt her

Why would you put your guns
With your kids on Christmas cards?
When did we get so mean?
Why is com-pass-ion so hard?

Last time I checked, there were no
Guns anywhere in your Bible
When will you stop making threats
To our precious survival?

It’s just another massacre
On another pretty day
Like it’s just another game
For you barbarians to play

And when the smoke clears
All we get are thoughts and prayers
We’re living in a twisted world
Sometimes I think nobody cares

Get it right down at the local store
Everything you need to start a war
Such a convenient means of murder
You don’t even have to touch her to hurt her
